My Clarion West littermate Huw had a party on Sunday, ostensibly a year-end party, but also a birthday celebration. Just so no one else gets jealous(!), he got a full painting on canvas and you didn’t because I made him another piece of art at CW that was vandalized by a well-meaning-but-temporarily-misguided classmate.
I figured I’d make something for Huw that no one would ever be tempted to draw a penis on.
You can see a bigger version if you click for more, and also, me complaining/trumpeting:

Maybe someday you will read the story, and then you will tell me disdainfully that the shark is supposed to be red.
The last time I painted something in acrylic with the intent to display skill rather than develop it, I made that portrait of Jay Lake on my Locus Awards shirt. So this is my second try ever, and I can tell. This painting is really hard for me to look at because there are flaws in everything. Composition, perspective, color mixing, lighting, brush strokes… I see nothing but flaws, except for one thing: that shark looks really freakin’ awesome. hahaha!
Seriously, isn’t it sad that we don’t have those in the sky sometimes?! Maybe I will paint a copy onto one of my windows, so when I look out I see a bull shark coming up over the top of Western Washington University or The Herald building.
