One of the items requested during the Art-a-thon was “some kind of kakapo picture” for kindofstrange.
I managed to smudge my first attempt, and then my cats stepped on it, and then I traced it and my muddy-pawed cats stepped on THAT one, and finally I locked the treacherous cats in my room and finished this third copy. Whew!
Inked…
Partly colored…
You can’t see it in the scan, but I went over the green and orange with pearlescent liquid acrylics, so in meatspace, the image sparkles.
And for those of you who’ve never heard of a kakapo, it’s a flightless bird native to New Zealand. They’re sort of like nocturnal parrot-shaped chickens. Kakapo are extremely rare because they evolved in an environment without natural predators–and then like usual, colonialization ruined everything.
When I am rich and famous, I will have a kakapo sanctuary. Only I will pay mad scientists to make my kakapo the size of the one in the photo, because the only thing better than a herd of kakapo is a herd of GIANT RIDEABLE KAKAPO. <3
